Consultation launched for the Green GEN Cymru Towy Teifi Project

Green GEN Cymru has launched a consultation on an updated route for its Towy Teifi project, which will connect renewable energy to homes and businesses. The consultation takes place from 5 March to 16 April 2025 and gives people the opportunity to provide feedback and influence how the project is developed.

Green GEN Cymru has launched a consultation on an updated route for its Towy Teifi project, which will connect renewable energy to homes and businesses. The consultation takes place from 5 March to 16 April 2025 and gives people the opportunity to provide feedback and influence how the project is developed.

The new alignment includes two sections of undergrounding – one near Merlin’s Hill, in recognition of its cultural and historical significance, and a second near Llandyfaelog to help manage visual effects in this area.

In other sections, Green GEN Cymru has updated the route alignment in response to public feedback and ongoing environmental assessments. Sections near to Cwmann and Llanllwni have been updated to be further away from the villages, compared to the previous route, and in all areas, pylon locations have been chosen to reduce effects on communities and the landscape. The Towy Teifi project is part of Green GEN Cymru’s plans to add much needed grid capacity to unlock Wales’ energy potential and enable the net zero transition. The Towy Teifi project would connect the Lan Fawr Energy Park, located east of Llanddewi Brefi, Ceredigion, to a new National Grid substation at Llandyfaelog, Carmarthenshire.

The new connection will also become part of a more resilient network for the region – creating capacity to support local investment and providing for a future in which the demand for electricity will increase significantly to heat homes and buildings, and to charge domestic and agricultural vehicles.

The more detailed design will give people a much better sense of what the connection could look like from where they live. Green GEN Cymru is now asking people to provide their feedback on the proposals so it can continue to look at ways to managing the effects of the connection.

People can find out more about the Towy Teifi project on the project website www.greengentowyteifi.com. Danny James, Senior Project Manager for the Project said:

“We’ve carefully considered the feedback we received to our first consultation and updated our proposals in response. We are working hard keep effects on communities as low as we can, while balancing effects on landscape and the environment, and meeting our duty to deliver a cost-efficient project.

“The project is still open to influence and we encourage residents to give as detailed feedback as they can. We are committed to continuing to listen to communities and further refining the plans.*

“We are hosting six community events along the route where residents will be able to meet the project team and view a digital 3D model of the route. We look forward to speaking with communities and local stakeholders about our updated proposals and welcome any feedback.”
